The Witcher is getting a movie of sorts, or rather an animated one. The official NX on Netflix account confirmed rumors this week that there will be a new animated film based on the hit Netflix TV series for The Witcher franchise. You can check out the announcement below.

Described as an “anime film,” which is really how Netflix tends to classify adult animation, the project is currently titled The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf. Series showrunner Lauren Hissrich and writer Beau De Mayo are currently working on the project. It will be animated by Studio Mir, the studio that worked on The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, and Netflix’s own Voltron: The Legendary Defender.

The film does not yet have an official release date and voice-over cast details have not yet been announced. Filming for Season 2 of the live-action series is expected to start soon for a 2021 launch. Considering this appears to be an animated spinoff or tie-in to the show, hopefully that means Henry Cavill will return to reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia. The title does imply that he will be making an appearance in the planned feature.

The entire first season is available to stream now on Netflix. You can check out 411’s review of Season 1 RIGHT HERE. You can check out our exclusive interviews with series stars Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan HERE, and also an exclusive interview with costar Joey Batey HERE.
