Netflix Developing Resident Evil TV Series

Netflix is at work on a Resident Evil television series adaptation. Deadline reports that Constantin Films, who produced the film franchise based on the games, is working with Netflix on the original series. The search for a showrunner is currently underway.

The site reports that the plan is to have trhe series “expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology.” The show will maintain the premise of trhe games and will “explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.”

The game franchise served as the basis for a successful film franchise that loosely adapted the storyline and starred Milla Jovovich. It grossed $1.2 billion total worldwide among six films.
