January 12, 2019 | Posted by Joseph Lee

Variety reports that Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) has been hired to write and direct Warner Bros. upcoming adaptation of the Mojang video game Minecraft. It will be produced by Roy Lee and Jon Berg, with producer credit still going to Jill Messick even though she passed away last February. Mojang will also produce with Jon Spaihts executive producing.

The film follows a teenage girl and a group of adventurers who try to save their blocky Overworld after the Ender Dragon begins to destroy it.

Sollett is the latest to board the project, which has been in development since 2014. Shawn Levy, Rob McElhenney and Steve Carell were all in talks for the film at various points, but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.
