Total Film has revealed an image from Universal’s upcoming sequel Halloween Kills, which features a dirty and blooded Michael Myers, likely just after his encounter with Laurie Strode in the 2018 Halloween. Total Film also has an interview with director David Gordon Green, who promised a larger scale for this film compared to Halloween movies in the past. Here are highlights:

On making the sequel less intimate than the original: “It’s one thing to be afraid of the Bogey Man. To have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house… But we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers any more.”

On the tone of this movie: “When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.”

Halloween Kills will arrive on October 15 after COVID-19 delayed it for a year. It was directed by Green from a script he wrote with Scott Teems and Danny McBride. The sequel stars Jamie Lee Curtis, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, Robert Longstreet, Nancy Stephens, Charles Cyphers, Dylan Arnold and Omar Dorsey. It will be followed by the final film in this trilogy (but probably not in the series), Halloween Ends, on October 14, 2022.
