Deadline reports that the Star Trek sequel written by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) has been postponed as new Paramount chief Emma Watts attempts to figure out how to move the franchise forward. At this time, Hawley is still attached to the project.

There are also scripts written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) for Quentin Tarantino to direct (who eventually dropped out), and another that would bring back the cast of the reboot trilogy with Chris Hemsworth playing the father of Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) for a time travel adventure. SJ Clarkson was originally attached to direct that but landed on Game of Thrones instead.

The script written by Hawley would feature a new cast and focuses on a deadly virus. Given current events, Paramount may not want to move forward on that just yet. Meanwhile, the script written by Smith was based on an episode of the classic series and is mostly on Earth with a 1930s gangster setting. It’s believed that both scripts would be best used as possible spinoffs. The decisions on the franchise will be made over the next few weeks.
