Long before he was Ant-Man, Paul Rudd was Tommy Doyle in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. And he’s excited to see Anthony Michael Hall take on the role in Halloween Kills. Hall, who is taking on the role of the adult Doyle in the upcoming sequel to 2018’s Halloween, appeared on the Fantasm Podcast and revealed that Rudd gave his blessing for Hall to play the role of Tommy in the film.

Hall said (per JoBlo), “One day, David Gordon Green texts me when I’m off, I wasn’t shooting that day, and he goes, ‘Yeah, I got a call from Paul Rudd, and he sends his best and he gave his blessings. He’s really excited that you’re playing the part.’ I never met Paul Rudd, but I thought that was really nice.”

He added that he’s had a great experience working with the original cast, noting, “I worked with a lot of the actors who were in that first film and they were all super cool. It was really great. I think fans are going to really like this film, it’s really intense, it’s really good.”

As the new Halloween films ignore all the continuity of the previous films beyond the first Halloween, it remains to be seen how Tommy factors into the new films. What we do know is that it stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Hall, Nancy Stephens, Robert Longstreet, Charles Cyphers, Kyle Richards, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Dylan Arnold, Jibrail Nantambu, and James Jude Courtney and opens on October 16th.
