In a post on Facebook, director Mike Flanagan revealed that production has concluded on the adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 novel Doctor Sleep, which is a sequel to The Shining.

He wrote: “So that’s a wrap on DOCTOR SLEEP! It’s been a long, crazy, truly unique experience. I read the novel as soon as it came out back in 2013, fascinated and moved by the epic story of Dan Torrance and Abra Stone, but I never imagined for a moment that I’d be the person to bring it to the big screen. It’s been an honor to spend the last five months with this fantastic cast and crew, and to be trusted with Stephen King’s extraordinary story. One of the highlights of my career, without a doubt. Shine on, everyone. Shine on.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Bruce Greenwood, Kyliegh Curran, Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe, Jocelin Donahue and Zahn McClarnon. Trevor Macy and Jon Berg will produce. It follows a grown up Danny Torrance from The Shining, who is now in his 40s and dealing with the same anger and alcoholism that ruined his father. Ferguson plays Rose the Hat, the leader of a cult that feeds on the “steam” produced by young people with the gift of the shining, while Curran plays Abra Stone, a girl with the ability who meets Danny.
