Production on Game of Thrones Prequel Pilot Begins This Summer

HBO will begin production on its Game of Thrones prequel pilot this summer, according to a new report. EW reports that according to HBO boss Casey Bloys, the prospective series will film its pilot episode thus summer under director S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders, Jessica Jones).

Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo are all set to star in the series, which is not yet picked up. If it is ordered to series, Bloys said that it won’t air until at least a year after Game of Thrones concludes its eight-season run in May or June.

Jane Goldman created the spinoff alongside George R.R. Martin, with Goldman having written the pilot. She will serve as as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Martin, Vince Gerardis, and Daniel Zelman. The prequel is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.
