Production Wraps On The Smashing Machine, Film Lands Overseas Deals
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine has wrapped production and scored several deals for overseas distribution. Deadline reports that the sports biopic has finished production in Japan and secured distribution deals in a number of key territories.
The film, which will be released in 2025 by A24, has sold to distribution partners in UK (Entertainment Film Distributors), Canada, Australia & New Zealand (VVS), France (Zinc & Bac), Germany & Austria (Leonine) Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Japan (Happinet Phantom Studios), Latam, Spain & South Africa ( Sun), Scandinavia (Nordisk), Benelux (The Searchers), Italy (I Wonder Pictures), China (iQIYI) South Korea (The Coup), CIS (AMedia), CEE (Unicorn), Ukraine (Top Film), Middle East (Front Row), Israel (Lev), Baltics (Acme), Turkey (Filmarti) and Portugal (NOS Lusomundo Audiovisuais).
Benny Safdie wrote, directed and produces the film through his Out for the Count banner with A24 producing and financing. It stars Johnson as Kerr, Emily Blunt as Kerr’s girlfriend and eventual wife Dawn Staples.
Johnson took time off from the production in May and travelled to Cannes to discuss support A24’s sales launch with other buyers.
