Back in July, there was a rumor that Quentin Tarantino was set to direct a film about the Manson Family and the murder of Sharon Tate. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Indiewire spoke with the director, who revealed that his next project will not be about Manson.

He said: “It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969.

He’s also looking for a new distribution partner for his ninth film, as he removed himself from Harvey Weinstein and the Weinstein Company after the sexual abuse scandal. Weinstein had distributed all of his films going back to 1992’s Reservoir Dogs. WME set up a series of pitch meetings from five studios with worldwide distribution, which didn’t include Disney.

The project has already been written. Rumors suggested that Margot Robbie would play Sharon Tate, with Brad Pitt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leonardo DiCaprio also in the cast. Tarantino isn’t planning on starting production until January.

He said that “it’s a level playing field” in regards to what studio he’ll choose, but he doesn’t know how he’ll make the decision.
