Deadline reports that Rachel Skarsten has been cast as the lead villain Alice in The CW’s upcoming series Batwoman. Alice is the leader of the Lewis Carroll-inspired Wonderland Gang, “swinging unpredictably between maniacal and charming, Alice has made it her mission to undermine Gotham’s sense of security.” In terms of villains, Alice is being compared to the Joker for this series. Skarsten previously played a DC character when she portrayed Dinah Lance on the 2002 WB series Birds of Prey.

The series stars Ruby Rose as the title character and will be produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television. The pilot was written by Caroline Dries and directed by David Nutter. Dries will also executive produce with Nutter, Berlanti, Sarach Schechter and Geoff Johns.

Here’s a synopsis: Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.
