READY PLAYER ONE
We reported on Saturday that Ready Player One was set to debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival. It did so yesterday, and several people have posted their extremely positive reactions to it online.

Bit of technical difficulties during climax of #ReadyPlayerOne sound cut out and it stopped. Don't they know all they need to do is take the cartridge of the film out and blow on it!? Duh! …Seriously though this film is a gamers dream! Kick Ass so far!

Went into READY PLAYER ONE skeptical as hell. Came out largely as a joyous convert. I have a handful of issues with the structure and characters, but it improves on the book in important ways, the action is riveting, and I really bought the humor. #readyplayerone

#ReadyPlayerOne posits a corporate big wig who exploits fan culture for profit as its villain. The irony of that is giving me a headache. This is no love letter to pop culture. It’s a crass play to nostalgia; it offers nothing new or exciting.

Just. These movies matter so much to people. To just slap on iconography and references like they are stickers on a bedroom door. It’s such shallow use. It exploits your love for these things instead of earning it.

The biggest suspension of disbelief in Ready Player One comes at the presumption that anyone in humanity would ever colloquially shorten "egg hunters" to "gunters" and it would catch on

The film was directed by Steven Spielberg from a script by Ernest Cline (based on his book), Zak Penn and Eric Eason. It stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, and Ben Mendelsohn. Spielberg will produce with Donald De Line (De Line Pictures), Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger, with Bruce Berman executive producing and Alan Silvestri composing the score. It arrives on March 30, 2018.
Here’s a synopsis: Set in the near future, Ready Player One follows outcast teenager Wade Watts (Sheridan), who escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the OASIS, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When eccentric billionaire who created the OASIS dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first.
