Resident Evil Reboot Taps Johannes Roberts to Write, Direct

The reboot of the Resident Evil franchise has found a writer and director in Johannes Roberts. Variety reports that Roberts (47 Meters Down) is on board to guide the reboot for Constantin Films.

Plot details are not yet known for the reboot, which begins production next year with a new cast and will attempt to revive the franchise that has earned $1.2 billion worldwide thus far. The video game-adapted franchise starred Milla Jovovich as Alice, who fought the outbreak of a zombie plague unleashed by the Umbrella Corporation. The film lost steam in its last few iterations in the US but remained huge overseas, with the last film grossing $312 million worldwide — half of which came from China alone.
