There’s a vocal part of the Star Wars fanbase that would like to see elements of The Last Jedi retconned, and Rian Johnson is okay with that. Johnson spoke with MTV News at CinemaCon and was asked about the possibility of J.J. Abrams undoing elements of his film in the new movie, and Johnson said he wouldn’t mind.

“I want to let go all of my expectations,” Johnson explained. “I want to sit back. I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want him to do stuff that I wasn’t expecting him to do and just go along for the ride.”

Johnson’s film was another blockbuster hit and has more than its share of fans, but a certain segment of the population was dissatisfied with plot elements like Rey’s parentage not having more direct significance and other facets of the film. Star Wars: Episode IX is set to release on December 20th.
