There were a few eyebrows raised when the awards push came from Disney for Avengers: Endgame and Robert Downey Jr. wasn’t on it. Certainly, there’s a debate about whether he would have a shot at a nomination, but considering Disney is pushing for everything BUT acting awards, it did strike some as a curious move.

But according to Tony Stark himself, that was his choice. Downey appeared on The Howard Stern Show and said that Disney had discussions about it, but he told them not to do it. “I’m so glad you brought this up because there was some talk about it,” Downey told Stern (via THR). “And I said ‘let’s not.'”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Disney won’t be pushing the film hard, and there’s always the possibility that the Downey could get a nomination if Endgame beats the odds and makes waves in other categories. If it does so though, it will have to pull it off without actively campaigning for Downey to get the nod.
