Robert Eggers is sticking with period horror, setting the 13th century-set Werwulf as his next film. THR reports that the Nosferatu director is set to direct the film, which he co-wrote with Sjón, for Focus Features. The studio has set a December 25th, 2026 release date.

The film is set in 13th century England with other plot details scarce. Eggers and Sjón wrote dialogue that is true to the time period and have translations and annotations in the script for cast and crew.

The film keeps Eggers on the period horror/fantasy track that has been a staple of his filmography in films like The Witch, The Norseman, and Nosferatu. The latter film has been a major hit for Focus Features with $90.5 million domestic and $156.8 million worldwide against a $50 million budget.
