Robert Zemeckis To Direct Remake of The Witches

Variety reports that Robert Zemeckis is in talks to direct Warner Bros’ new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book The Witches. Zemeckis will also write the script. ImageMovers’ Jack Rapke will produce with Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro was set to direct but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts.

The film is based on the 1973 novel, which was previously adapted into a 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston. The new version is expected to be closer to the book. It follows a seven-year-old boy who runs into real witches.
