Coming Soon reports that before a screening of 1996’s Independence Day, director Roland Emmerich and stars Jeff Goldblum and Vivca A. Fox had a Q&A. Emmerich revealed that he plans on directing a movie about the Battle of Midway.

The battle began on June 4, 1942. The United States Navy destroyed an attacking Japanese fleet over the course of several days. Director John Ford then produced an 18-minute propaganda documentary about the battle. It’s in the public domain and can be watched below.

Emmerich said: ““At the time, the Americans were the underdog. It was one of those moments where, against all odds, people came together and did the impossible. A lot of pilots died in this battle. I want to make a monument to them and it would be great to make a movie about it.
