Disney+ could get a Willow sequel series according to Ron Howard. Variety reports that on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Howard said that serious discussions were ongoing and said Warwick Davis would return as the titular character.

“Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action,” Howard said.

The outlet has confirmed that Howard and Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) are in talks for the sequel series for the new Disney streaming service. The original is an iconic fantasy film from 1988 that Howard directed, with George Lucas producing. It centered on Willow Ufgood (Davis), a farmer reluctantly pulled into a quest to protect an infant who has a destiny to take down the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). He teams with the mercenary Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) and Bavmorda’s daughter Sorsha (Joanne Whalley) in the process.

The film did not get a sequel on the big screen, but there was a trilogy of novels that Lucas and Chris Claremont (X-Men) wrote, titled Chronicles of the Shadow War. Set fifteen years after the movie, they centered on the teenage Elora, though the sequel series of course may end up ignoring the books.
