Director Ruben Fleischer spoke with Cinema Blend about the mid-credits scene for Venom and what it means for a sequel. It must be said that spoilers abound for those who haven’t seen the film yet.

In the mid-credits scene, Eddie Brock (Hardy), having worked out a deal with the Venom symbiote to co-exist, goes to interview serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson). Cletus is better known as the Spider-Man and Venom antagonist Carnage, suggesting that he will appear in a big way in the sequel.

“He was the first person I thought of to play Cletus Kasady,” Fleischer said of Harrelson. “And what will be fun is, if you think about Woody in Natural Born Killers, and that darkness and that menace that he can bring to a serial killer like Cletus Kasady, you know, he can go real dark and explore that. Carnage is going to be… just thinking about Venom pitting off against Carnage is just so exciting. And hopefully fans leave the movie really looking forward to that next one. Because I think also just seeing Tom and Woody go head to head, you know, those are two great actors that I think can really create some exciting scenes.”

Venom is currently tracking to reach $65 million by the end of the weekend, marking the best opening for a film in October. You can check out 411’s official review of the film RIGHT HERE.
