In an interview with French website L’Internaute, Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo teased that the classic Marvel story Secret Wars could be adapted in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joe Russo said: “We’ll say that if that Fox deal goes through with Disney there’s a lot more characters to work with all of a sudden. It would be interesting to do something like ‘Secret Wars’…

The original story happened from 1984 to 1985 and was a crossover featuring all major heroes and villains from Marvel Comics, including The Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four. A cosmic entity The Beyonder teleports charactesr against their will to a planet called Battleworld and forces them to fight each other. One of the major developments of the story is that Spider-Man got his black symbiote suit, which eventually led to the creation of Venom. It was originally created as a tie-in for a Mattel toy line. It had two sequel series: Jim Shooter’s Secret Wars II in 1986 and Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars in 2015.

The MCU’s third phase will continue with Avengers: Infinity War on April 27.
