Saturday Night Live ‘Breaks Character’ in Anti-Trump Game Show Segment

Saturday Night Live took its mocking of President Donald Trump to meta levels in a segment this week. Last night’s Jessica Chastain-hosted episode saw a game show-style sketch titled “What Even Matters Anymore” in which Chastain played a fictional game show host asking contestants Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson whether Trump’s actions — real and speculative — make any difference.

During the sketch, which you can see below, McKinnon “breaks character” and refers to Chastain with her real name. It’s revealed that the segment was an effort of Chastain’s to make them all go through the motions of a game show so that she could freak out about the direction of the country. The whole thing ends with Chastain asking for a hug from McKinnon and Thompson “because she really needs it right now.”
