Saved By the Bell, Celebrity Championship Wrestling Alum Dustin Diamond Diagnosed With Cancer

January 15, 2021 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Dustin Diamond, aka Screech from Saved By the Bell and a Celebrity Championship Wrestling alumnus, has been diagnosed with cancer. Diamond’s representatives confirmed the diagnosis to PEOPLE Magazine on Thursday.

The statement read:

“We can confirm that Dustin does have cancer. It’s very serious, though we are still waiting for more details, which we will have shortly. He’s in a lot of pain. [He is] undergoing chemo [and will stay at the hospital] at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home. By next week, we’ll have a much better understanding of the severity of his condition and what treatments he will need so that he’s comfortable.”

Diamond came to fame with his role as the “weirdo” Screech on the 1990s high school-set sitcom. He was the sole member of the cast not to reprise his role in the reboot that aired on Peacock, which is believed to be at least in part due to his book Behind the Bell which detailed alleged sordid details behind the scenes of the show. Much of the cast was very critical of the book. Diamond also had legal problems in 2014 when he was arrested for pulling a switchblade in a bar in Wisconsin.

In addition to his Saved By the Bell work, Diamond is known to wrestling fans for his appearances for Memphis Championship Wrestling in the summer of 2000 as well as being a cast member on CMT’s Hulk Hogan’s Championship Wrestling in 2008. He made it to the end of the competition, with Dennis Rodman ultimately winning.

On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Diamond in his fight with cancer.
