It won’t be a surprise to many Scream devotees, but the new film has been given an R rating by the MPAA. The ratings board has announced that the fifth film in the franchise is rated R for “strong bloody violence, language throughout, and some sexual references” – basically, in keeping with the previous four films.

The new film is titled simply Scream and is a sequel to the past four films. It is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett from a script by James Vanderbilt and is set to release on January 14th, 2022. Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar, the movie’s official synopsis reads:

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
