Are You Afraid of the Dark

Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, here’s a tale that’s sure to peak the interest of 90s kids. Variety reports that screenwriter Gary Dauberman (IT) is set to adapt the classic Nickelodeon horror anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark for Paramount Players, a new division of Paramount Pictures. Matt Kaplan will produce.

The original series was created by DJ MacHale and Ned Kandel. It ran from 1992-1996 before getting rebooted in 1999 with new writers and showrunners. It followed a group of kids called the Midnight Society, who tell each other scary stories based on fairy tales and urban legends with a more contemporary setting.

Paramount Players is run by Awesomeness founder Brian Robbins and looks at modern talent and properties for young audiences, drawing from the Viacom brands like Nickelodeon. It’s already developing a Dora the Explorer film with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes producing.
