Marvel has found their director for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Shang-Chi helmer Destin Daniel Cretton on board. THR reports that Cretton, who directed 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend Of the Ten Rings, will direct the first of two Avengers films that will close out Phase Six of the MCU.

Marvel announced at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend that Phase Six would be closed out by Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2nd, 2025 and Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7th, 2025. No talent was announced at that time.

Cretton earned high marks for his work on Shang-Chi, which was released in September of last year and grossed $432.2 million despite theaters still being in the process of opening back up. The film was a hit with critics and fans and Cretton was signed for a sequel to that film, which does not yet have a release date.

The Kang Dynasty will, based off its name, feature Kang (Jonathan Major) as the primary antagonist. The time-travelling Avengers villain is set to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will launch Phase Five in February of next year. Major’s Kang in Quantumania will be a different versioon of the one we saw in Loki season one, who was named “He Who Remains.”
