According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron has been hired to be the showrunner for Marvel’s upcoming limited series Loki. He will write the pilot, serve as the show’s creator and executive produce. Tom Hiddleston will return to play the titular trickster, reprising a role he’s played since 2011’s Thor. It’ll probably be easier to cheer for Loki in his own series now that we know he was under mind control during the events of The Avengers.

The show is expected to follow the God of Mischief as he goes through human history as an “unlikely influencer” on historical events. It’s one of several shows in development for Disney+ from the comics brand, including The Vision and Scarlet Witch, Rocket and Groot and Falcon and Winter Soldier. No word on if they’ll try to bring back any of the recently cancelled Netflix shows back from the dead, however.
