Sonequa Martin-Green’s role in Star Trek: Discovery officially has a name. The official Twitter account for the upcoming CBS series revealed the character details for Martin-Green’s character in the show, who was previously described as a female “lieutenant commander — with caveats” by then-showrunner Bryan Fuller last August. (Fuller has since stepped away from the series.) She will be playing First Officer Michael Burnham in the series.

Martin-Green also spoke with TV Line about the series, which will premiere on CBS in late summer or early fall before moving to the CBS All-Access streaming service. Highlights are below:

On the pressure of playing the lead role: “There’s definitely a lot of responsibility to being the lead of any show. And obviously to be the lead of this, [an offshoot of] one of the most popular, if not the most popular, television series of all-time… you can certainly get lost in it if you allow yourself to, and just sort of be frozen…[I’m] swimming with the gratitude of it, and that’s carrying me through [any nerves]. I’m still blinking to see, ‘Is this real? Oh my goodness.’

On what to expect from the show: “This iteration of Star Trek is going to have a different take than the others in the Star Trek canon. It’s going to be bigger, rawer and grittier…and the story’s going to build on itself. It’s going to be a tremendous journey.”

On the show being told through the perspective of her character: “Since Star Trek has always been through the eyes of the captain, to be coming from [his second-in-command’s] mindset is going to be refreshing and challenging in ways that are very thrilling.”
