Morbius has fallen prey to another release date move, being pushed out seven months to October. Variety reports that the Jared Leto-fronted Marvel film has been bumped from March 19th to October 8th.

The move is the latest by a studio in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. While companies like Disney and WarnerMedia have had the option of releasing their projects on their own streaming services, something WarnerMedia is doing with their full 2021 slate via HBO Max, Sony does not have that option (although it should be noted that Disney is keeping its blockbusters for 2021 in theaters for now as well).

The film stars Leto as the titular Marvel character alongside Matt Smith as Loxias Crown, Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, Jared Harris as Morbius’ mentor, and Tyrese Gibson as an FBI Agent. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film is described as follows:

“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.”
