The new sequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was already off to an outstanding start at the box office with a $260 million domestic opening weekend. Now, per Deadline, the film is expected to break $1 billion at the global box office later today. This would make No Way Home the first film in the COVID-19 pandemic era to pass the $1 billion mark.

If the estimate is accurate, No Way Home would also be the second-fastest film ever to reach the $1 billion mark at 11 days, tying with Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame currently holds the record at fastest to $1 billion worldwide at five days.

On Thursday, the sequel brought in another $32.2 million at the overseas box office, bringing its total international take to $490.2 million and $876 million worldwide going into Friday. Before Friday, Christmas Eve, the film’s domestic total was sitting at $385 million. No Way Home is currently on track to become the highest grossing film of 2021.

These totals will also make it the highest-grossing Spider-Man feature to date as well. The film likely surpassed the domestic total for the 2002 original Spider-Man film at $407 million yesterday. Spider-Man: Far From Home currently holds the record at the worldwide box office for the franchise at $1.131 billion. No Way Home should eventually beat that number easily.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released by Sony Pictures and directed by Jon Watts, starring Tom Holland. You can check out 411’s official, spoiler-free review of the film RIGHT HERE.
