As previously reported, Spider-Man: No Way Home was already tracking for a major box office debut this weekend after bringing in $50 million for its opening Thursday previews. Now, based on a box office update from The Hollywood Reporter, the film is expected to bring in a staggering $240-$250 million for its opening weekend.

The film brought in an estimated $121.5 million at the Friday box office for its opening day, including Thursday previews. This is the second-biggest opening day of all time at the North American box office and the biggest for December.

This record-breaking opening would make No Way Home the first film to open over $100 million in the COVID-19 era and bring in similar business that tentpole films would have before the pandemic restrictions. Beforehand, the biggest opening weekend during the pandemic era was about $90 million.

If No Way Home finishes at about $250 million, that would give the film the third-biggest box office opening weekend of all time, trailing behind only Avengers: Endgame at $357 million and Avengers: Infinity War at $257.6 million. The current No. 3 is Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $248 million. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is fourth at $220 million, and Jurassic World is fifth at $208.8 million.

Additionally, No Way Home has grossed more than $100 million in its first two days of release in overseas markets, setting records in multiple regions.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is released by Sony Pictures and directed by Jon Watts, starring Tom Holland. You can check out 411’s official, spoiler-free review of the film RIGHT HERE.
