Star Wars Executive Points Out Newly-Found Empire Strikes Back Production Goof
Just when you think you know everything about the original Star Wars trilogy, a Lucasfilm executive has revealed a new production goof. Pablo Hidalgo, a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group that keeps track of story continuity and canon for the franchise took to Twitter to point out a minor technical oversight in The Empire Strikes Back.
Hidalgo noted that while watching Empire on the big screen recently, he noticed writing on the bottom of Luke’s lightsaber. That writing was “New York” and is a label on the camera flash that was used in the construction of the lightsaber:
I've noted this before, but every time I watch a Star Wars movie, there's something new to notice. Especially if I'm fortunate to catch it on the big screen. This latest discovery? that 'NEW YORK' is visible on the bottom of Luke's lightsaber in EMPIRE. pic.twitter.com/Z85NPvgcVR

Pointing out production goofs is a common pasttime of filmophiles and eagle-eyed fans, most recently seen in prominence when a coffee cup and water bottles were seen in episodes of the final season of Game of Thrones.
