Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Episode IX

The teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker was recently released earlier this month at Celebration. Since it’s debut, the trailer has gotten an insane amount of views and viral activity online, Per Deadline, the film’s first trailer drew 111 million views in 24 hours since it debuted online.

That number is even higher than the 91 million viewers for The Last Jedi teaser, which debuted in April 2017 and had 91 million views in just 24 hours. The amount is also said to be almost double the amount of views for Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer that debuted in November 2014 on Thanksgiving day.

However, by comparison, it was not able to surpass the amount of trailer views in the first 24 hours for Avengers: Endgame, which pulled in 289 million views in 24 hours after its launch in December, which is a staggering number. Also, Avengers: Infinity War for its trailer launch had 238 million views in the same time frame, and The Lion King had 224.6 million views in the first 24 hours for its first trailer.

Some of this can be explained that a number of fans were watching the trailer live at the Celebration event, while Marvel and Disney usually release trailers cold online for their films.

Additionally, RelishMix states that the viral rate for Episode IX is at “a very healthy start” of 295:1 through 10 days based on its YouTube traffic. That is currently higher for a similar time frame for The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20.
