The Purge Creator’s Idea For Sixth Film Involves Frank Grillo’s Character
The Forever Purge had a solid start in theaters last weekend, and should demand justify a new film creator James DeMonaco wants Frank Grillo back. DeMonaco spoke with /Film about the franchise and specified that his previously-mentioned idea for a sixth film would involve Grillo’s Leo Barnes as he comes back from his isolation to deal with the situation.
“Dude, my Purge 6 idea is all about Frank,” DeMonaco said when asked what Leo’s up to these days in the film universe. “It’s all about the Leo character. Without giving anything away, I think he’s off on his own, but he’s going to be called back into action, hopefully on Purge 6, if we’re lucky enough to do it. I hope that Leo comes back. That’s the goal. When I came up with Purge 6, he was the center of the idea. I’m hoping that we get to do that with him.”
The Forever Purge has thus far grossed $20.7 million domestically and $24.8 million worldwide against an $18 million budget plus marketing. So while it has a ways to go, it appears to be on the road to profit. Grillo played Leo in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year, the latter of which saw him made the new Director of the Secret Service. It isn’t known what’s happened to him in the time since, although Grillo has stayed busy with appearances in the MCU as Crossbones, the action-thriller Boss Level which arrived on Hulu in March, and Black and Blue from 2019 among many other roles.
