Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had the biggest solo opening of his career with Black Adam, and he took to social media to share what that meant to him. As noted, the DCEU film grossed $67 million over the weekend and the star posted a video to Instagram commenting on what that meant to him. A couple of highlights are below:

On the film’s opening weekend: “Just swooping in to say thank you guys so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m delivering a big-ass package of gratitude right now. Black Adam, that has been a 15 year-long journey, a passion project of mine. I know you guys know that. This past weekend — we made history this past weekend with Black Adam. You made Black Adam the biggest box office opening of my entire career.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. I believe in being the hardest worker in the room, I believe that it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. But I also believe in controlling the controllables, and putting in the hard work with our own two hands, and delivering for you guys, who I always say is my #1 boss other than my girls back home. But thank you guys so much.

On growing up a DC fan: “The biggest opening of my entire career, I was floored, it’s so humbling to get that news. But it’s also so motivating too, as well. I grew up a DC boy. No hiding now, I like Marvel and they’re all my friends, but I love DC through and through, it’s in my blood. Superman was my favorite, Green Lantern, you name it.

“But when I saw my very first Black Adam comic book when I was eight or nine years old, it was arresting. “That thing grabbed me and I was like ‘Oh s**t.’ I had never heard of him and I thought ‘Man, this dude looks cool. He’s aggressive, he’s mean, he looked intense on his face. He looked like a pro wrestler. He had a bad-ass dope outfit that was black and yellow. And he had brown skin. The brown skin was the thing that really grabbed my attention because there was no brown-skinned heroes in DC, certainly not on TV. So when I saw Black Adam, I said, ‘That’s the guy I wanna be one day.’ I could relate to that. And now years later you made it the biggest box office opening of my career. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.”
