The Rock Re-Teaming With Emily Blunt for Superhero Comedy Ball and Chain
Former WWE Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still one of the most in-demand talents in Hollywood today. Deadline.com reports that Johnson is looking to re-team with his Jungle Cruise costar, Emily Blunt, for the upcoming superhero comedy, Ball and Chain. Blunt and Johnson are reportedly being packaged to star together in the planned comic book film.
The spec package, based on the 1999 comic of the same name, follows a bickering couple who receive super powers that only work if they can somehow put aside their differences and work together. It originated as a four-part 1999 comic book series by Scott Lobdell, Ale Garza, and Richard Bennett. Here’s an official synopsis for the original comic release:
Edgar and Mallory Bulson have decided to throw in the towel. That was the plan anyway, until a mysterious meteor bathed the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that gave them super-powers. Will their newfound abilities be enough to make their marriage work?
The project is being written by Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick), and Kevin Misher is producing it for The Rock’s Seven Bucks banner. Several studios are said to be bidding on it, and Netflix is rumored to be the top candidate where the film could land.
The Rock and Blunt previously worked together for the upcoming Disney feature, Jungle Cruise. The film was recently delayed from its original July 24, 2020 release to July 30, 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
