The casting for Vesemir has finally been revealed. Netflix today officially announced that Danish actor Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve, The Bridge) has been cast for the upcoming second season of The Witcher in the highly coveted role of Vesemir.

Vesemir was referenced and heard offscreen in the first season of the TV show, but he was never seen onscreen. The young version of Vesemir was voiced by British actor Theo James. Here’s Netflix’s official character description for the oldest living Witcher and mentor to Geralt of Rivia

A charming relic of the witcher Golden Age, Vesemir is the oldest and most experienced witcher in our series, as well as a father figure to Geralt. As one of the survivors of The Massacre at Kaer Morhen, a haunting slaughter that nearly exterminated the Witchers, he is fiercely protective of the remaining few, who he sees as an endangered community who can find glory on “the Path” slaying monsters.

Series showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich commented on the news, “I am so thrilled to welcome Kim Bodnia to the cast of The Witcher. I have admired his unique talents in shows like Killing Eve and The Bridge, and cannot wait for him to bring strength, tenacity, and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who is such an integral part of our upcoming season.”

Henry Cavill returns as Geralt of Rivia for Season 2 along with Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Other returning cast members for Season 2 will be MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Lilly Cooper as Murta, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpin Zigrin, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Terence Maynard as Artorius, Lars Mikkelson as Stregobor, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla Vigo, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte as Dara, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, and Therica Wilson Read as Sabrina.

Also joining Kim Bodnia for the cast this season are Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Born as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Mecia Simson Francesca, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and Kristofer Hivju of Game of Thrones fame as Nivellen, and recent graduate

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich acts as series showrunner and executive producer. The other executive producers include Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko. Season 2 will be directed by Stephen Surjik, Sarah O’Gorman, Ed Bazalgette, and Geeta V. Patel. Here’s an official synopsis for the Series:

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, THE WITCHER is an epic tale of fate and family. The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
