UPDATED: Twitter Suspends Rose McGowan’s Account, She Says There Are ‘Powerful Forces At Work’

UPDATED: Rose McGowan’s Twitter account has been unlocked. Twitter says her account was locked because she tweeted out a private phone number, a violation of their terms. Once she removed that tweet, he account was unlocked.

“Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power,” Twitter said in a statement. “We stand with the brave women and men who use Twitter to share their stories.”

ORIGINAL: Rose McGowan has been very vocal lately after news broke of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault and harassment of multiple women, even calling for the entire Weinstein Company board to resign. She even took shots at actors like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who she claimed knew about Weinstein’s behavior. McGowan was one of the women accosted by Weinstein, and was paid a $100,000 settlement in 1997 to keep quiet about it.

McGowan revealed her account was banned in post on Instagram. She wrote:

Her most recent tweets are shots at Bob Weinstein and the Weinstein Company, after claiming they “all knew” what was going on with Harvey.

Twitter claims that it suspends user accounts for “abusive behavior.” Their policy states: “In order to ensure that people feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs, we do not tolerate behavior that crosses the line into abuse, including behavior that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another user’s voice.

Others didn’t take kindly to Twitter’s actions, voicing their opinions on the social media service.
