Who Should Fill Out the Cast for Gotham City Sirens?

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Suicide Squad director David Ayer has signed on to direct Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn spinoff movie titled Gotham City Sirens. The film will reportedly feature some of DC Comics’ best female villains, like Catwoman and Poison Ivy, and will hit theaters in front of a proposed Suicide Squad sequel.

Ayer will produce the film with Robbie, who spoke about wanting to do an ensemble movie starring Harley back in May. Warner Bros. liked the idea and is giving it the greenlight. It’s a little surprising that Ayer’s was tagged to direct since his Suicide Squad had some harsh reviews, with many point to his vision hampering the movie. Also, greenlighting the movie is another indication that Warner shooting from the hip when it comes to putting their cinematic universe together. It should be noted that Suicide Squad made more than $700 million at the box office. Just imagine the potential box office that awaits if they find their rhythm and get critical and audience love.

Gotham City Sirens is the name of a 2009 DC series, written by Batman: The Animated Series creator Paul Dini. In it Harley, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman team up to protect one another while getting into misadventures. The series was well received and it’s not too surprising that it’s being used in connection with a big screen adaptation of some sort.

In a Suicide Squad related note, Warner Bros. is also reportedly developing a Deadshot standalone film, with Will Smith expected to reprise his role. For those keeping track, the DC cinematic universe has 12 movies on its agenda when you add up Wonder Woman, Justice League, related solo movie and even the Dark Universe.

Basing Gotham City Sirens around Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is a no-brainer. She received rave reviews for her character and many consider her the best thing from the movie. The real fun is guessing who they’ll cast as Catwoman and Poison Ivy as each role will be highly sought after. Not long after the news of the movie came out, rumors flew that Megan Fox was almost a lock to play Poison Ivy. The original source for the rumor came from Bleeding Cool based on questionable data. It’s a good bet that the role is still up for grabs.

Early speculation for Poison Ivy has also included such names like Evan Rachel Wood, Natalie Dormer, and Alexandra Breckenridge. I’ll admit that I’m partial to tweaking the Poison Ivy character and putting Christina Hendricks in the role.

Catwoman is a prime role that carries plenty of mainstream weight. Actresses that could vie for the role have included Paula Patton, Eiza Gonzalez, Priyanka Chopra, and one publication has called for the return of Anne Hathaway to the role!

Just like any other project, finding three actresses that have the right chemistry to pull it off will be the biggest hurdle. Not to mention a script and directorial vision to capture the allure of the three main characters.

What do you think of Gotham City Sirens and who would you cast for Catwoman and Poison Ivy?
