The Lord of the Rings, Will Poulter

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series has a new star in Will Poulter, according to a new report. Variety reports that the Midsommar star has joined the series in one of the lead roles. Details of his role are being kept under wraps right now, though Variety notes that it was “one of the more coveted jobs in town for young actors.”

In addition to this summer’s Midsommar, Poulter is known for his work in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, The Revenant, and The Maze Runner. Amazon reps declined to comment on the story.

Poulter will join Markella Kavenagh, who was in talks for another lead role in the series. The show will take place long before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic fantasy novel, set in the Second Age when the Rings of Power were forged. J.A. Bayona will direct multiple episodes of the series, which will explore new stories and characters. It does not yet have an official release date.
