The 1987 road trip comedy classic Planes, Trains & Automobiles is getting a remake with Will Smith and Kevin Hart in the lead roles. Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is remaking the John Hughes film from a script by Aeysha Carr (Brooklyn 99), who is making her feature film script debut here.

Smith and Hart will play the roles played by Steve Martin and John Candy, who are forced to become traveling partners as they try to get back to their families for Thanksgiving when their flights are canceled. Holiday-related hijinks ensue. The film was a critically-acclaimed film and a hit for Paramount at the time, with $49.5 million grossed. In the years since its release, the film’s reputation has only grown since.

No word yet on who will direct the film. Hart and Smith will produce the remake of Planes, Trains & Automobiles along with with Westbrook Studios’ Jon Mone and Hartbeat exec Bryan Smiley.
