The Witcher TV Series Gets 2019 Launch Window

As previously reported, Superman actor Henry Cavill was recently confirmed to be joining Netflix’s planned The Witcher TV series in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has also confirmed Twitter that the show will have a 2019 launch window. You can check out that tweet below.

The tweet also offered up some basic story details, which read as follows: “The witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”

The show is on the book series created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be the executive producer and showrunner for the planned series. The eight-episode first season will feature episodes directed by Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström. Additionally, Sakharov is attached to the show as an executive producer. He will direct four episodes for the first season, and Lopez and Brändström will each direct two episodes. Sakharov will direct four episodes, including the first. Garcia Lopez and will direct two each.

The Witcher originated as a series of short stories in Poland written by Sapkowski in the 1980s. The most recent novel in the book series, Season of Storms was published in 2013. The books were later adapted into a series of smash-hit, award-winning video games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The video games continued the story of Geralt of Rivia after a point where the central events in the book stories ended.
