Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead Getting Animated Spin-Off Centered On Batista’s Character

We’re still quite some time out from Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead seeing the light of day, but Batista’s character is getting an animated prequel. Deadline reports that the big-budget zombie action heist has an prequel film on the way as well as a anime spinoff series that will examine Batista’s character of Scott in the film.

The main film stars Batista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win and centers on a group of mercenaries who head into the quarantine zone of Las Vegas in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak in order to pull off a heist. Netflix is set to release the film as well as the spinoff and prequel.

The animated spin-off is called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and tells the origin story of Scott (Dave Bautista) and his rescue crew during the initial fall of Vegas as they confront the mysterious source of the zombie outbreak. Snyder will direct two episodes of the series, which DC Animated Universe director Jay Oliva (Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis) will serve as showrunner for. Bautista, Ana de la Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick and Ella Purnell will reprise their roles in the series.

The live action prequel will be titled be directed by and staf Schweighöfer, following his character Ludwig Dieter. Shay Hatten, who wrote the main film, will write both the prequel and animated series.

Snyder is also in post-production on his Snyder Cut of Justice League, which hits HBO Max early next year.
