A new report claims that Zack Snyder was fired from his work on the DC Extended Universe before he left during Justice League’s production. Josh L. Dickey, who was a reporter for Variety, the AP, The Wrap, TMZ and other outlets, said over the weekend as he announced his retirement that Snyder was fired by Warner Bros. over a year ago, which was before his public departure from Justice League. He left work on the team-up film last May after a family tragedy.

Dickey, describing himself as in “DGAF” mode as he retired from the industry, referenced a report of his from July of last year on Mashable in which he said, according to multiple sources, Snyder and his wife (a producer on the DCEU) would “no longer have anything like the level of creative influence that got the franchise to this point.” Warner Bros. denied the report at the time, and in his tweet yesterday Dickey said that he ‘couldn’t write it ~quite~ that way [that Snyderw as fired] at the time, but was able to tapdance around it.”

There have been numerous rumors and reports that Snyder wouldn’t be returning to the DCEU in a creative capacity, but nothing has been confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC Films. Justice League was a critical and commercial disappointment for the studio, with $656.4 million domestically from a massive $300 million budget. Warner Bros. reportedly restructured the DC Films division afterward, with Walter Hamada becoming the new president of the company.
