TMZ reports that Aretha Franklin’s family is expecting a large attendance for her public viewing, so the plan is to hold the open casket memorial at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. The venue was chosen because it will hold the thousands of people expected to show up. Franklin also visited the museum often. No date has been set for the memorial at this time.

Franklin’s family was considering a traditional church service but realized that any church would be too small. The museum previously held the public memorial for Rosa Parks in 2005. Franklin passed away yesterday in Detroit at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
