The guitar that Bob Dylan played during his Rolling Thunder Revue and at the Concert for Bangladesh sold for almost $400,000 at auction on Saturday. Rolling Stone reports that the 1963 Martin D-28 acoustic guitar went for $396,000 at Heritage Auctions, which was almost $100,000 over what it was expected to sell for.

THe guitar was put up for auction by Larry Cragg, who was Dylan’s guitar repairman. He bought the guitar from Dylan in 1977 for $500. A copy of the purchase receipt was included in the sale.

Heritage Auctions said about the guitar, “According to Cragg, he has kept the guitar in a humidity-controlled environment, with loosened strings for the forty years it’s been in his possession, and it has not been played since it was wielded by Bob Dylan in 1977.”
