Eddie Vedder Pays Tribute to Chris Cornell in Concert

Eddie Vedder’s solo European tour began in Amsterdam on Saturday night and during the concert, the Pearl Jam frontman paid tribute to Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Vedder, who was a longtime friend and collaborator with the late rocker, made several references to Cornell during the concert according to Consequence of Sound that included changing lyrics to songs.
According to the site, Vedder’s opening song was Pearl Jam’s “Long Road” and he switched the lyrics to “Without you/ something is missing.” At one point a fan yelled out, “I love you!”, to which Vedder responded, “Thank you. I need it – we all need it. I’m thinking of a lot of people tonight. And some in particular and their families. And I just know that healing takes time, if it ever happens. It takes time, and that means you have to start somewhere. So let it be music. Let it be love and togetherness. And let it be Amsterdam.”
You can see footage from the concert below. Cornell passed away on May 18th at the age of fifty-two.
