Ryan Adams is the subject of an investigation by the FBI into allegations that he had explicit and inappropriate communications with a minor. The New York Times reports that the FBI has opened an inquiry into the claims published in the Times yesterday that he contacted the woman when she was fourteen and carried on with sexually explicit communications for months, including video chat.

According to the outlet, FBI agents from the New York office of the Crime Against Children Squad have begun opening a criminal investigation into the situation. They are interviewing the woman, named “Ava” in the initial report, and are gathering evidence of the correspondence between the two. Adams’ lawyer told the Times that his client has not been contacted by any member of law enforcement and has denied the allegations.

Adams issued an apology “to anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally” and denied the allegations posed by Ava. Several other women have accused Adams of mental and sexual misconduct, including his ex-wife Mandy Moore, which include offering career advancement for sexual favors and retaliating against the womens’ careers when their relationships ended.
