Kendrick Lamar and SZA Call Lawsuit Over Black Panther Music Video ‘Absurd’

TMZ reports that Kendrick Lamar and SZA have spoken out against the lawsuit over their music video from “All the Stars” from the Black Panther soundtrack. They filed legal documents asking a judge to dismiss the suit, which Lena Iris Viktor filed over nineteen seconds that she claims steals her artwork.

The two stated that even if the artwork does steal from her, she’s not entitled to any profits because “common sense and logic dictate that the alleged 19 second use of the artwork in the video” isn’t what caused the song’s success, but instead the success is because of Lamar’s “worldwide popularity as well as numerous accolades, including a Pulitzer Prize and dozens of Grammys.” The two also credit the album’s success on the cultural impact of Black Panther.
