TMZ reports that R. Kelly is threatening legal action against Lifetime over an upcoming documentary called Surviving R. Kelly, which paints him as a cult leader that’s “abusive” and “sex-crazed.” Kelly’s lawyer Brian Nix threatened to file a federal lawsuit today, demanding that Lifetime not air the film later today.

This comes after reports that the family of Joycelyn Savage, one of the women alleged to be Kelly’s sex slave, wanted her back. Savage has claimed that she’s not being held against her will and was seen in public without Kelly as recently as May. The documentary from Lifetime is in six parts and will include new allegations from those close to Kelly that he has abused women physically, mentally and sexually. Kelly claims the allegations were made by people who just wanted to be famous. He says he has two five-minute recordings that show Lifetime knew “some of the girls are lying, but that the budget was too high to turn back now.”
